Mountains and hiking

Castle Ruins and History
This national historical site contains the remains of a mountain castle built by Hojo Ujiteru. Visitors can enjoy everything from strolling around the ruins of the main palace and stone walls to a full-fledged mountain castle walk.
ACCESSJR · From Keio Takao Station North Exit, take a bus and get off at "Reien-mae/Hachioji Castle Ruins Entrance" bus stop, then walk for about 20 minutes.

From Shinjuku Station, it takes approximately 40 minutes to Hachioji Station on the JR Chuo Line, and approximately 40 minutes to Keio-Hachioji Station on the Keio Line. To get to Mount Takao, use Takaosanguchi Station on the Keio Takao Line.
Route buses operate from Hachioji Station, Keio Hachioji Station, and Takao Station to various parts of the city. For Hachioji Castle ruins and the hilly areas, a combination of bus and walking is recommended.
Depending on your destination, you can use the Hachioji IC or Hachioji-Nishi IC on the Chuo Expressway, or the Takaosan IC on the Ken-O Expressway. The area around Mount Takaosan gets crowded on weekends.
